Crown Classic
Dear Zeta Alumnae,

The Kappa Chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha’s annual Crown Classic Golf Tournament is quickly approaching!  Each year members of Zeta, along with family and friends, enjoy spending a Saturday afternoon out on the golf course with each other.  Whether you are an avid golfer, a recreational player, or an absolute beginner, I encourage you to gather family members and friends and join us for Crown Classic.  Enter individually or in teams of four and come out for a good game of golf, followed by an early dinner.  The tournament will take place on Saturday, April 10th beginning at 1:30 pm at the Onion Creek Club in Austin.  Please return the attached registration sheet to any member of Zeta Tau Alpha or to the Zeta house by April 2nd if you are interested in participating in this exciting event!  I hope to see you there!

Sincerely,
Katie Gaskin

Kappa Chapter’s Crown Carnival – March 26th

Dear Alumnae,

I want to inform you about Kappa Chapter’s annual Crown Carnival! This event is put on to showcase Breast Cancer Education and Awareness and more importantly, to bring together potential future Zetas! If any of you have a daughter that is currently a senior in High School and planning on attending UT at Austin, or any other satellite school, we really want to meet her and her friends and we encourage them to come to Crown Carnival. This event kicks off the fun weekend of Round-Up at UT, where all incoming freshmen are invited to come and meet older Greeks. We want to extend a special invite to legacies and their friends, and offer them a Zeta hostess if they need a place to stay for the weekend. Many initiated Zetas have offered a bed to sleep on for any legacy that wants to stay for the entire weekend. We would love for your daughter to participate in this fun-filled weekend with her potential new sisters!

This year the event is on Friday, March 26th from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm, and it will occur in the backyard of the Kappa Chapter house located at 2711 Nueces, Austin, TX 78705. We will be serving hamburgers, hot dogs, potato salad, cole slaw, and cupcakes (all homemade!). There will be a sno cone machine, dunking booth, cotton candy machine, and tie-dying! We will be giving away white t-shirts that say “think pink” on them, and providing our guests with all different shades of pink tie-dye to decorate their shirts. The shirts will be hung and dried overnight and given to the girls the following morning so that they can wear them on Saturday!

Once again, if any of you have a daughter that is currently a senior in High School and planning on attending UT at Austin, or any other UT satellite school, please tell them about the event and encourage them to come stay with an older Zeta for the weekend! This is a wonderful way for your daughter to meet initiated members and experience what Zeta is all about! Please RSVP to ztakapparush@gmail.com, and don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns. Please know that all Panhellenic sororities will be having events this weekend and that information will be posted on the University of Texas Panhellenic website.

Zeta Love,

Lauren Taylor

Road Trip to Texas Zeta Days

Although we didn’t necessarily hit the road (we chose our favorite airline), Austin Alumnae Chapter members made the 400 mile trip to Lubbock in February for the Texas Zeta Days. The trip was very much rewarding and we’re proud to announce the following awards that were given to our chapter, chapter members and our collegiate chapters:

· Austin Alumnae Chapter Members:  Individual Awards/Recognition
- Jen Jefferson won the Zeta Lady award for her participation in our programming events, organization of our Yoplait campaign this year, and for always donating her homemade cards for our fundraising efforts. It is presented to an alumnae member chosen by her alumnae chapter or president for outstanding service to the organization.

- Julia Ott was presented the Ultra Violet Award for District XI-B for her major contributions to community by chairing our Celebration of Life luncheon and the Arc of the Capital Area’s Annual Building Bridges Gala. This award is presented to one alumna in each district who has demonstrated extraordinary volunteerism within Zeta and her local community. Nominations are judged by the Vice President of Alumnae.

- Amy Biegel received her Certificate of Merit. This is awarded to alumnae members with at least seven years of significant service to the Fraternity. This award requires the unanimous vote of National Council. The Fraternity’s second highest award, and the highest given to an alumna at the state level.

- Nan Barkley Boettcher was pinned with a white violet by her daughter Laura Boettcher Bennett in the Order of the Shield Ceremony. This award honors those that have completed 50 or 75 years of membership in our Fraternity. A certificate is presented to honorees, as well as a White Violet pin (50 years) or White Violet charm (75 years).

· Austin Alumnae Chapter Awards
- Best Lil’ Chapter in Texas Award for our sisterhood and programming events. This rotating tray is given to a chapter in each district who excels in at least one area of the Crown Chapter Criteria.
- Major donor award for our contributions to the ZTAF in excess of $300.
